The winter is fast approaching. Puppies are almost all gone..... 5 down and 1 to go and he should be leaving by the weekend. I needed a winter project so have taken up beadwork and making semi-precious gemstone jewelry. I have added a new blog site where I have pictures of the jewelry that I have made and will be adding more as it is made. I have 4 craft fairs coming up within the next 2 weeks so I am busily crafting away.

If you have been following the Family Blogs, and my Windtalkers site, you are now aware of the poisoned pets, pigs, and possible contamination of our food supply, from a chemical substance imported from China, called Melamine. It has been determinted that it was deliberate. China used Melamine to boost its sales. USDA admitted that since it is understaffed it never inspected the containers that arrived on the docks clearly marked Melamine. The product was sold to pet food manufacturers. Several cats and dogs died from eating the food. There has been a huge recall. The full list can be seen on my windtalkers-siberians.com website. Here is the story that CBS News has published:

Will China's Practices Hurt Food Sales?
(May 1) - By some reports, melamine was — until now — a commonly used additive for wheat gluten exported from factories like one in Shandong Province to the United States for pet food. Melamine is a cheap way to fake high protein levels in wheat gluten. The Chinese government — moving to protect its multibillion-dollar exports of fruits and vegetables — has now banned melamine and shuttered plants that may have used it. China insists every container with agricultural products is inspected. But the reality, experts tell CBS News, is that serious spot checks are rare. So buyers and even the government come to perhaps the most sophisticated private lab in the country for checking foods, especially for pesticides, the No. 1 problem, CBS News correspondent Barry Petersen reports. At the lab, they believe the foreign companies buying the goods have more leverage than the government. "If I'm a supplier in China, I'm going to react much more if my customer tells me I need to improve what I'm doing and they want to make sure I'm doing a safe job," said John Chapple, general manager of the Sino Analytica lab. Most Chinese farms are tiny — a third of an acre — and they're selling to a world in which every country has different regulations, such as how much and what kind of pesticide can be used. But it's not just what Chinese farmers are putting on their crops, it's also what the country's industry is spewing into the air and dumping into the water that's threatening China's food supply. Ten percent of China's arable land is now badly polluted. Cities let chemicals run in the streets and clog up the rivers. "What’s in these rivers is largely industrial," said China expert Orville Schell, "and that's what they use to irrigate crops." China wants to be food exporter to the world. It's an ambition that may falter if it can't convince the world its products are as safe as they are cheap.

It's time to wake up America! If we can not be guaranteed that the foods we are importing are safe for both human and animal consumption, it is time to take a real serious look at foreign trade and grow our own crops. Who cares if they can produce and sell their crops cheaper. Does price really matter when it comes to yours and your pets health? Life?

Wild Hogs

Now both my Brother and my g/f "V", tell me that Wild Hogs is another "must see" movie. I have read both good and bad reviews on this one, so if anyone has seen it let me know what you thought of it. I am thinking if it has Travolta in it, and it is a Disney movie, it just has to be good..... ?????? Maybe I will let my Brother go see this one first.

An update on this. My friend told me that she laughed the whole way through and the movie was hysterical. Even her boyfriend, who was skeptical, thought the movie was funnier than shit.
I trust their judgement so I say, "go see it."

Man, I so want to see this movie.

Face it, I just love Nicholas Cage!!!! Even if the movie was a dud I would go watch it just to see Nicholas Cage in action. I love a good action adventure movie anyway, which is my favorite type of movie to watch. I have seen the reviews and the special effects just look awesome. I have heard the movie will scare the pants off of ya, so don't take your kids to see it. If anyone has gone to see Ghost Rider I would sure like to hear what you thought of the movie in general, and the special effects. It will probably take months to come to a theater near me..... DANG! One of the bad points of living in a small town.... what can I say?

Update: I got an e-mail last night from one of my So. Ca. friends, Mark. He and Sherri saw the movie and Mark said it was great! Much better than the movie clips on the Ghost Rider web site. Once again I trust the judgement of my friends and say, go see it!

Update 9-4-07: I bought this movie. The special effects are awesome! I didn't realize that Sam Elliot was also in this movie. Two of my favorite male actors in one movie? It just doesn't get any better than that. I hope they make a sequel.

Okay, everyone has their own page so I guess it is time. My pages have been all about huskies, and yes, more puppies will be here soon.... any day, as a matter of fact. I did need a page of my own and 360 just wasn't cutting it. I hate all of the banners, ad's, and the usual junk Yahoo stuff. I like it uncluttered, clean..... sort of like life! HA!

For those of you that know me? I am adaptable, changeable, creative, imaginative. I like art, design, be it home design, web pages, or painting on a canvas. I like to write too, but haven't ever had anything published and doubt that I ever will.

I suppose all of this belongs in my profile, and I will get to that soon enough. I just wanted to get some pictures and cool stuff up.... after all, isn't that what this is all about? And, I also wanted to introduce myself and welcome you.

I hope you will come back, if nothing else just to see what I have been up to.
